# Link your Minecraft chat to a Discord server

So you want to have your Minecraft chat show up in your Discord server (and vise-versa), huh? Well lucky for you, Lilypad is here to help!

|| If you need any help along the way, feel free to open a ticket in [our Discord server](https://lilypad.gg/discord)

### Creating the Discord bot

All plugins/mods we'll discuss later will require creating and setting up a Discord bot for the integration:

1. Go to the [Discord Developer Portal](https://discord.com/developers/applications) and login to Discord
2. Click **New Application** in the top right, type in a name, check the box, and Create (optional: choose an icon for the bot under App Icon)
3. On the **Installation** page: Disable **User Install**, ensure **Guild Install** is enabled, and change **Install Link** to **None**
4. On the **Bot** page: Under Token, click **Reset Token** and store the newly generated token somewhere safe (Don't just copy it! You'll be copying something else later)
5. Under Authorization Flow, disable **Public Bot**
6. Under Privileged Gateway Intents, enable ALL privileged intents (**Presence Intent**, **Server Members Intent**, **Message Content Intent**)

7. On the **OAuth2** page: In the **OAuth2 URL Generator** select **bot** as the Scope and then **Administrator** as the Bot Permission (or whatever permissions you want to give your bot)

8. Ensure Integration Type is **Guild Install** and then copy the generated link at the bottom

9. Paste this link in your browser and follow the instructions to add the bot to your Discord server

You've now successfully added a custom bot to your Discord server. The next step is enabling Developer Mode on Discord:

### Enabling Discord Developer Mode

1. Open your **User Settings** on Discord
2. Open the **Developer** page (very bottom, right above **Log Out**) and enable **Developer Mode**
3. Go to your server, right-click the channel you want your Minecraft chat to go to, and click **Copy Channel ID** at the bottom of the context menu
4. Store this copied ID somewhere safe as you'll need it later

You're now ready for the final step, setting up the plugin/mod:

### Setting up the plugin/mod

There are a few different ways to do this depending on your server software:

* [Fabric / NeoForge / Forge](#2-fabric-neoforge-forge)
* [Plugin-based (Paper, Purpur, etc.)](#2-plugin-based-paper-purpur-etc)

### ${color}[#ffffff](Fabric / NeoForge / Forge)

1. Install [Discord Integration](https://modrinth.com/plugin/dcintegration/versions?l=fabric&l=neoforge&l=forge) from Modrinth (make sure to download the correct modloader + Minecraft version)
2. Restart your Minecraft server and open **config/Discord-Integration.toml**
3. Find the `botToken` setting (under `[general]`) and set it to the token you stored when creating your bot
4. Find the `botChannel` setting and set it to the channel ID you stored earlier
5. Save the file and restart your Minecraft server

You should now see messages showing up in your Discord channel. Don't see any messages appearing? [Open a ticket in our Discord](https://lilypad.gg/discord).

### ${color}[#ffffff](Plugin-based (Paper, Purpur, etc.))

1. Install [DiscordSRV](https://modrinth.com/plugin/discordsrv) from the Plugins page of your Lilypad server panel
2. Restart your Minecraft server and open **plugins/DiscordSRV/config.yml**
3. Find the `BotToken` setting and set it to the token you stored when creating your bot, it should look something like this: `BotToken: "MjE5NTE5OTk0MDUxMDM1MTQ3.CqTCYw.SFAbKtfK3ydTy1jx2-fTHUJqsPo"`
4. Find the `Channels` setting and replace `000000000000000000` with the channel ID you stored earlier, it should look something like this: `Channels: {"global": "219559668236681216"}`
5. Save the file and restart your Minecraft server

You should now see messages showing up in your Discord channel. Don't see any messages appearing? [Open a ticket in our Discord](https://lilypad.gg/discord).
