Getting started with your Minecraft server

Purchasing a server from Lilypad was the right choice! This article should cover the basics of setting up and configuring your Minecraft server, so that you and your community can start playing in a survival world straight away.

You should've received an email with instructions on setting up your account with our game panel, available at panel.lilypad.gg – just click the link in the email to get started and, and once inside the control panel, select your server that you just deployed. If your server isn't online already, you can start it by pressing the Start button in the top right corner of the panel.

We automatically enable a username-based whitelist/allowlist on all servers created with us, so please run whitelist add <player> in the console to add your account (and others') to the list, replacing with your in-game username. If you're running a private server, we recommend keeping it enabled for security reasons, however you can run whitelist off in the console to disable it (this allows anyone with your server's IP to connect to your server!)

You can then copy the IP address and port to the top right of the console:

And connect to it via your Minecraft client, using the version you installed (usually the latest version):

Upgrade your server with Lilypad

We understand your server's playerbase can fluctuate a lot, and so we allow you to easily scale your Minecraft server by upgrading or downgrading at any time.

Head to your Servers page on the billing panel, or click here.
Select the service which you wish to upgrade and double check you've selected the right one. Now press Upgrade/Downgrade in the left sidebar.

You should now be able to select a new plan for your server. Finally, proceed with the checkout process for your new plan, and your server will be adjusted once payment has been received. Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions, and thanks for your business!

What does Lilypad's infrastructure look like?

Although we keep some details of our backend infrastructure secret in order to protect our clients, there are certainly some details we're happy to share! Let's start with a look into some of the security practices used by our team to protect the infrastructure which powers Lilypad:

Mandatory two-factor authentication/2FA (or passkey auth where possible) on all external services that Lilypad uses, such as Crisp (our live chat & helpdesk software), Google Workspace and GitHub
Any staff with access to sensitive/customer information have up-to-date antivirus software on their computers
We ensure staff only have access to the data necessary for their job, and make use of tools like Cloudflare Zero Trust to enable this
No Lilypad staff store customer data locally, and if needed, only do so temporarily and with strictly the data necessary for the intended purpose

Add Simple Voice Chat to your Minecraft server

Accepted Answer

Simple Voice Chat is a great tool, allowing you to communicate with players in-game via proximity voice chat (meaning players are louder the closer they are to you). This can make your Minecraft experience even more fun, and you can see it in use in numerous videos like TommyInnit's YouTuber Hunger Games event.

We've made it super easy to install and the quickest way to do so is outlined below.

Visit the Simple Voice Chat page on Modrinth and download the corresponding version. If you're running a Pufferfish/Paper server, you'll want the "Bukkit" plugin file, or if you're running Fabric/Forge, the "Fabric" or "Forge" mod file.

Head to our game panel at panel.lilypad.gg and select your server.
Select the "Files" button in the sidebar to navigate to the File Manager, and then click on the plugins folder if you're uploading the plugin version, or the mods folder to upload the mod.

Drag and drop the Simple Voice Chat file into your browser window to allow it to upload.

Restart your server to load in the new plugin/mod.

I'm super excited to announce that Senior Hosting has now rebranded to…

Since 2021, we've provided the high-quality hosting services our customers know and love under the name "Senior Hosting", deploying hundreds of servers and handling dozens of support enquiries on a monthly basis.

This has effectively conveyed to our customers that we offer the same quality of services that our (ex) parent company Senior Studios is known for. However, we've now made the decision to operate as a separate company, and under the new name "Lilypad" – while still maintaining the same close relationship with Senior Studios that has brought us many customers that we have today.

What does this mean for you?

Not much! It's mostly just a rebranding, with our new name being Lilypad and our new domain lilypad.gg
The main website and control panels have been changed to reflect this rebranding. We've set up redirects for any links you might have bookmarked, but we still recommend you change them to point to the new domain.
Automatic payments should continue as usual without any manual intervention on your end, but please be aware they'll start to show up in your bank statement as to "Lilypad Technologies" or similar.

Point a custom domain to your Minecraft server

A domain like lilypad.gg (or, in the case of an actual server, hypixel.net) can make your server look much more professional to potential players, and is easier to distribute than a traditional IP and port like 66.118.235.132:25565 – luckily, we've made the process of pointing a domain to your server easy.

| You can purchase domains from registrars like Porkbun, Cloudflare or Namecheap.

Log in to your domain's control panel and head to the page where you can manage DNS records. This might sometimes be called "Custom DNS" or just "DNS".
Create an A record with the following information:

Type: A
Name: The bit before the domain, such as play if you want your server address to be play.yourdomain.com – if you want players to connect via the root domain like yourdomain.com, most providers will require you to simply set this to @
Address: Your server's IP address, excluding the port (for example, 66.118.235.132)

||| If your DNS is with Cloudflare, make sure the record is set to "DNS only" and the orange cloud is toggled off.

Create an SRV record with the following information if your server's port is not 25565:

Type: SRV
Name: Same as before, the bit before the domain (or @)
Service: _minecraft
Protocol:
